Pee Wee Ellis as Sax player, arranger and bandleader for James Brown was at the genesis of modernpopular black music. Along with the JBs and James Brown, Pee Wee created Funk which is the central anduniversal element in most popular modern music genres today.
Patches Stewart is part of the next generation who took the original Funk, Jazz and Soul prototype and with his Trumpet exploded it into a thousand fresh fragments; Jazz Funk,Jazz Rock, Soul Funk and so manymore. Through his work with Quincy Jones, Al Jarreau, Marcus Miller and many others, Patches has left a serious fingerprint on modern music history.
Xantoné Blacq completes the top. Born in Lagos, Nigeria his roots are from Africa, which is where all black music begins. As part of the generation after Patches,his Vocals,Keyboards and Percussion playing is a fusion of the new and the old; the Funk and Africa.
